I had the pleasure
of experiencing the works of Apostolos Kilessopoulos in a very intimate
way. (The world experience is used here with the most profound respect).
In the autumn of 1997 I stepped into the inner sanctum of his studio. Once
inside the doorway, I felt a sudden change of energy. The electricity moved
through my body and I crossed the threshold of time-space continuum. Past,
present and future being created simultaneously; I felt a resonance of
spirit as I began to explore this fascinating world.
It is this complex experience, which pushed me beyond the realm of the ordinary, beyond the circle of the mundane and into the far reaches of the universal universum. The dance of dichotome is ever-present here: serene / active; complex / simple; soothing / electrifying; contemplative / captivating. This is the energy and synergy, which swept me Across the Threshold. To understand the work of Apostolos Kilessopoulos requires the unlimited input from all sensory organs. Beyond the scope of mere consummation, the viewer is drawn into the vast realms of discovery, exploration and awareness expansion. From the moment the viewer glances (even briefly) at the works of Apostolos Kilessopoulos, he is engaged in an experience; drawn into the various works not just by color, movement, shapes, light refractions or symbolism, but rather, by memories. These often very intimate remembrances, confirm that the soul is able to transcend the time space continuum and transform expectations into experiences.
In the last twenty-five years or so, a great deal has been written about the holographic universe. That (being), although we are each a separate entity, we are also part of the whole. This oreness, which unites all, then further drives our awareness to the comprehension that the beginning is the end and the end is the beginning. This is, how we can best experience the current works of Apostolos Kilessopoulos. We cannot merely state that his works belong to the modern era. For, we are then limited to comparison of other artists works, linear measurement of time and a uni-dimensional world. Along the way, we have learned, and learned quite well, that each piece of artwork, each artist, must be categorized by subject and epoch. This method in the past, has served the viewer well, for he thinks he has then discovered order and symmetry. He is able to define his world through linear structure and this gives purpose and meaning to his definitions. Instead we are literally forced to push the envelope of definition and understand that his artwork defies the time-line and move into another reality. Can we then describe Apostolos Kilessopoulos as an artist who belongs to the futurist epoch? I submit, that in doing so, we serve this artist an injustice. For we have then clearly defined the major obstacle in this definition: limitation. As you remember, I have already that said from the moment the even casual viewer glances at the works of Kilessopoulos, he is engaged in an experience. This means that the viewer transcends the linear time-space realm as well and is transformed into an experiencer of these works. The experiencer plays a significant role in the synthesis of the energy of each piece. No longer can he objectify these works. No longer can he stand outside of the experience, looking in and judging the work for its merely intrinsic value. No longer can he simply place definitions on this art, categorize this art and limit his senses. As an active part of the experience, he is engaged in the whole. Apostolos Kilessopoulos creates for us the entry point to the holographic universe and enables us to actively co-create our own reality. Just how he is able to accomplish this with such grace is his deep understanding and appreciation of the human consciousness. Music, vibrations. Light refraction and unlimited resources dance together as the preparation begins for each new work. Hammering away at the frame of the canvas, suddenly there is a crack of electricity and Apostolos Kilessopoulos begins to mix the colors for his works. I am amazed as I observe him. His profound respect for the pigment can best be appreciated when one understands that he mixes his colors on the canvas itself. He works quickly, precisely and exudes pure bliss as his brush meets the canvas. Pausing only for a mili-second to dip his brush in more pigment, the artist' s own consciousness is both inside and outside of the painting, simultaneously. What does he see? What does he feel? What does he know? These are questions one often asks oneself when one is viewing artwork. These questions do not even come into the factoring with the current works of Apostolos Kilessopoulos. The viewer is an engaged experiencer and is gently led into the vast reaches of his own consciousness by the artist. There is another very important element in these new works. The artist, realizing that he too, is being propelled to depict a three dimensional world, suddenly begins using pieces of string, paper, Styrofoam and other materials of substance. The introduction of this new material wraps a cord around the experiencer and suddenly, one finds he is drawn deeper into the experience. The cord serves as a communication line between the experiencer and the artist. Telepathically the experiencer receives the signals that he too, is a very important part of the whole of the experience. Moving then through these current works of Kilessopoulos, the experiencer further understands that since he is beyond the limits of the time space continuum and linear measurement of his environment, he can direct his attention to any and all parts of the artwork. Do these vast blue realms, with essence of light, seem to indicate one is in another energy structure? Is it perhaps the undersea world? Has one been transported through a black hole into another universe? Or is one in an expansive universe of one's own consciousness? These are questions only the experiencer can answer for himself. What is amazing however is that, while engaged in the activity of experiencing this artwork, one is drawn into these deep questions and transformative thoughts. Looking at the artwork of Apostolos Kilessopoulos
over the past twenty years or so, one is lead on the path of consciousness
exploration. Are we simply looking at the artists own growth or are we
instead, engaged in our own exploration. Has the artist then mirrored the
vibrations of our soul?
Generally speaking, the artist works primarily in variations of blue. A new and different pattern does emerge, as each time the artist is ready to meet a new challenge or explore in far more depth; a period of deep red colors becomes quite prominent. It is the preparation for the birth of new energy, new work, new inspiration and new exploration. By the mere fact that artist feel the vibration (frequency) of the red color and fully use this energy to catapult him into a new realm of consciousness development, the experiencer is able to feel this charge of energy as well. Moving through then this "red phase", the experiencer has the exact feeling of being expelled into a new galaxy, a new vibration, a new system. Structures shimmer on the surface of the art work and suddenly, we are deeply involved in the light refractions and the depths of the blue colors. Thousands of variations of this color sway on the canvases and suddenly, the cord appears on the artwork. Wrapping the experiencer significantly into the far reaches of the artwork. Moving, moving, moving now, we glide quickly to a place of total light, peace and joy. We have moved into the lightness of being now. The artwork has begun to evolve into refractions of light and the dance on the canvas is swift with the inclusion of variations of white. String, cord, paper, Styrofoam and other material become the backdrop for this multi-dimensional world of light, color, being and oneness. This is the work of Apostolos
Kilessopoulos. We are no longer mere casual observers of art, we are intimate
experiencers
of our holistic world. Profound, intimate, joyful and an expression of
unconditional love. For this, and all of the experiences I am honored to
have with this artwork, I am thankful. With great determination and zeal,
Apostolos Kilessopoulos challenges us to realize we are beings of unlimited
capabilities, capacities and invites us to co-create our really today,
for tomorrow and beyond.
