APOSTOLOS KILESSOPOULOS

For many years, Apostolos Kilessopoulos has transformed astral phenomena into mixed media relief paintings of monumental presence and emotional charge. Drawing on the spectacular patterns of fractals and principles of string and chaos theories, his complex orchestrations generate pictorial spaces that collapse our sense of time and depth, of mass and void, akin to the Eastern notion of nirvana. Vessels of bundled data or coded ideograms, the works also chart a metaphoric "brain" of the cosmos as passages of two-dimensional painting along with painted strings and paper energetically weave the illusory and the real. Virtuoso webs of contrapuntal lines-its neural pathways- dance over the surface of his canvases with speed and grace, and instill a sense of dynamic equilibrium.
